Muffler of Sound Shot

This recently found concept (believed to be from Mezhregional’noe Obshchestvennoe Uchrezhdenie Institut Inzhenernoj Fiziki of Russia) describes a detachable muzzle device for the “reduction of shot sound and is aimed at improvement of sniper rifle SVD muffler design.” Construction of the device is in two parts—a separator and jacket, creating a row of subsequent flow chambers. In the separator for the muffler there are L-shaped bulges installed behind foresight block in such a manner to facilitate attachment to a weapon barrel. The muffler is equipped with an adapter installed on the arms barrel, in which six threaded openings are arranged. In the muffler jacket, evenly along the circumference at 30 degrees, there are 12 oval holes arranged. Beside the jacket an adapter is installed by means of matching a single oval hole to one of threaded holes, and the muffler jacket is fixed with a screw.

The reported effect of this design is that it simplifies design of the device and increases its efficiency, which expands functional resources of the muffler.

Rheinmetall Landsysteme GMBH

This German design relates to a system for a remote weapon station joystick controller that is integrated into the operator’s seat as opposed to a separate unfixed device. The advantage of the integration of the operating element into a support with armrest allows the operator a greater degree of freedom while keeping all controls in a fixed location within easy access. The company describes the bracket system as being ergonomically favorable and compact within the sometimes limited confines of a military vehicle.

The bracket has a height adjustable arm support, where an aiming grip is attached at a front part of the bracket. The arm support is pivoted together with the aiming grip in its front part using an articulated joint. The bracket is fastened at a seat, roof, base and wheel house. The height adjustment of the arm support takes place with a help of a star-knob screw around a bearing. Counter boring and folding of bracket takes place by a parallelogram rod.

Laser Sights

A laser sight is coupled to a gun with a connecting rod; the connecting rod includes a rod body, and an expanding and fixing sleeve having a truncated-cone shape. The rod body is passed through the sleeve, and the sleeve is inserted in a joining hole of the gun. The rod body has a front threaded portion joined to the laser sight, a middle truncated-cone shaped section, and a male threaded portion adjoining the truncatedcone shaped section. The expanding and fixing sleeve has a lengthways extending gap thereon, and a truncated-cone shaped hole receiving the truncated-cone shaped section of the rod body. The taper of the truncated-cone shaped section of the rod body matches that of the truncated-cone shaped hole of the sleeve; the sleeve has a female threaded portion in the truncated-cone shaped hole, which is engaged with the male threaded portion of the rod body.

Small Arms Feeder Hopper

Otkrytoe aktsionernoe obshchestvo Kontsern Izhmash of Russia has released information related to feed hoppers of small arms, namely for box-like feed hoppers with cartridge feeders. The described feed hopper comprises body, “P”-shaped insert with wing flaps in upper part and spring-loaded feeder. “P”-shaped insert is fixed on axis with the possibility of rotation and is equipped with limiters of its rotation. The angle of the “P”-shaped insert rotation is selected providing that a cartridge round enters the barrel cartridge chamber and makes a seven-degree rotation.

The reported effect is increased reliability of arms as a whole and simplified design due to elimination of the large number of assembled parts. ♦
