Industry Interview: Base-X, Inc.

Q: Can you describe the TOC solution from Base-X and how it is suited to the special operator community?
A: Rapid-erect, durable and lightweight— these are all characteristics of our shelters, which ideally match the needs of the special operator community. Our TOC solution is man-portable, requiring no lift equipment for offloading. Our shelters require no poles, ladders or mechanical equipment to set up and their strength and durability are perfectly suited to any harsh environment.
We continually examine closely the needs within the military community to provide a superior integrated command post solution that meets our stringent standards for efficiency, cost, manpower, durability and strength. And while technology is ever-evolving, we remain committed to offering superior products into our product line.
Next, we deploy and work directly with the customer base to gauge feedback in real-world environments and then go about making improvements leveraging our manufacturing experience and know-how. One example is what we’ve done to develop a video screen frame which folds into a compact size and meets the other criteria of all our products.
What you have in the end is a truly superior TOC solution—we have more operating space at a lower cost, with better durability.
Q: Beyond your commitment to the products you are offering, then, what else can you say your company offers to serve your customers?
A: Well when you build a superior product, you are also more apt to stand behind that product. Our philosophy is to provide the best warranty, the best service and support, and we can do that thanks to our remote work force throughout the globe. So, besides having the most advanced and efficient shelter product on the market, we believe that our service and support provides even more of an advantage to the consumer— peace of mind, really.
Q: There are many deployable tactical shelter solutions on the market today and you have already outlined the characteristics that define your system offerings. So, what can you share with our readers about your shelters that make them ideal in the expeditionary environment?
A: Our folding frame design, really, is the cornerstone of that rapid-deploying characteristic. Then you have the duallayer construction which acts as an environmental barrier creating a thermal layer of insulation against the outside heat or cold.
Even with our Air Base inflatable shelters, the cell-to-cell construction has an exterior and interior fabric layer throughout the entire structure. The byproduct is fuel efficiency. Less fuel, less energy, less service to maintain operations: these are all benefits which serve our troops reducing the logistical burden and footprint.
Q: Besides the development of a folding- frame video system, what else is new on the horizon at Base-X?
A: We like to remain fast and fluid, like our troops, and so we look to develop new products we can bring into our portfolio that have a good fit with our corporate strengths, but also to bring onboard new products to enhance our line as well.
Some of the things we’ve worked on include a new modular design to expand our Air Base-X inflatable shelters. The new segmented modules allow for more flexibility in addressing footprint and complexing needs. Of course these are the largest models in our product line so they are ideally suited for vehicle and air craft maintenance. Next, we developed a solar power panel which fits on our shelters.
We have already deployed the Solar Fly a few times and we’ve been very satisfied with the results as well as user feedback. Lastly, we have greatly expanded our work force to address the demands of C2—bringing together tremendous talent to offer smart, efficient, robust solutions as well as that superior service and support that our customers have come to associate with Base-X.
Q: Any last thoughts?
A: We are just so excited about the growth and development we’ve had over the past year. We remain focused on our commitment to product excellence and we are proud to stand on our global service and support that we can bring to our customers. We want to serve our armed forces with their best interests in mind with respect to all aspects of what we offer as a company. ♦
